Kruger is one of the best game-watching destinations in the world. The park is nearly 2 million hectares large and characterized by combinations of open grasslands, savannah, shrub mopane landscape, riverine areas, mountains and woodland. It is home to an impressive number of species: 336 trees, 49 fish, 34 amphibians, 114 reptiles, 507 birds and 145 mammal species. From the famous “Big Five” to the lesser species include the elephant (12.000), rhino (black and white, 5000), buffalo (2500) and lion (1500). Other “Big Cats” are the leopard (1000) and cheetah, and other carnivores like wild dog, jackal and spotted hyena. The park also is home to some remarkable well known animals like the giraffe, zebra, hippo, crocodile, kudu, wildebeest and 25 antelope species. A rich and diverse bird-life occurs in this world-renowed park.
